Primary Job Duties;

  • Provide Food Safety and Sanitation Services to a series of retail grocery stores in a specific territory.

  • Assess food safety and sanitation practices in retail stores, record the information, develop an action plan on how to improve compliance, and provide training where and when necessary.

  • During the routine service visits, the FSS completes a standardized Food Safety and Sanitation Audit that encompasses all aspects of retail grocery food safety, and ensures that associates are adhering to Company Standard Operating Procedures

  • Verify that all Dispensing Equipment is in good working order, and that store associates understand how to properly use all chemicals related to the Food Safety and Sanitation Program.

  • Facilitate field training, which is accomplished with hands on training using our comprehensive electronic video library available through Companies knowledge center.

  • Candidates must be willing to travel up to 20% daily in a designated area including overnight.

Candidates interested in this position must;

  • Have basic plumbing skills.

  • Have technical aptitude, and can use tools to repair, and or install equipment daily.

  • Be able to work independently with minimal guidance, and as part of team.

  • Be able to stand and lift to 40lbs for an extended period.

  • Must have a valid Drivers License and a clean MVR

  • Overnight travel is required

Chick-fil-a: food safety consultant

The Food Safety Consultant provides specialty consulting services to Restaurant Operators. They partner with Chick-fil-A Owner/Operators on intervention strategies to address food safety concerns and promote a culture of food safety. 

Responsibilities

  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve Restaurant level food safety risks

  • Assist Owner/Operators in the resolution of the major Health Department risk factors and compliance to the FDA Food Code

  • Partner with Business Consultants as an expert liaison in the event of potential food safety situations that may require Restaurant closure

  • Establish the path and criteria to re-open a Restaurant that undergoes a closure for food safety related reasons

  • Aid restaurants in defining short and long term food safety culture wins

  • Serve as the technical expert on prioritization, energy focus and resources to strengthen food safety operations and culture

  • Influence Restaurant-level Food Safety needs to the Food Safety Solutions, Systems, and Culture Teams and broader organization.

  • Review Restaurant Food Safety challenges to identify potential root causes and determine the most appropriate consulting support to determine steps toward solutions

  • Manage the internal relationships with other departments to influence improved food safety systems across the organization

  • Works with wide latitude independently to make decisions and take action in all situations

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a science such as: Food Science, Biochemistry, Engineering, Environmental Health Science, Chemistry, Biology or extensive restaurant experience in a food safety role

  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience in food safety (Restaurant experience preferred)

  • Ability to work in a technical area (be detail orientated) as well as with customers and in supplier environments

  • Leadership skills and ability to influence change in a complex environment

  • Willingness to travel (40-60%)

Overview

This role will be primarily responsible for developing, coordinating and monitoring Chick-fil-A’s food safety and quality programs for products supplied to our restaurants. This individual will also be responsible for facility inspections of approved vendor plant locations and providing technical assistance to both Operators and Vendors concerning Food Safety and Quality. Additional responsibilities include working and improving the audit program for supplier performance management.

Responsibilities

  • Implement Supplier Quality and Safety Expectations with suppliers.

  • Serve the Chick-fil-A Operator by fielding and documenting product issues.

  • Oversee and promote food safety and quality programs to ensure compliance with standards.

  • Build strong, collaborative working relationships with key suppliers and visit their facilities regularly.

  • Collaborate with other Chick-fil-A departments to ensure food safety and quality standards are met.

  • Coordinate resolution of issues with Supplier Quality and Safety, Supply Sourcing, Supplier and Chick-fil-A Operator.

  • Represent Chick-fil-A operator with a supplier and facilitate credits when necessary.

  • Coordinate audit programs. Prepare and analyze data.

  • Coordinate audits and procedure training with suppliers.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or Engineering

MAIN JOB PURPOSE:

The Foods & Refreshment (F&R) Science and Technology (S&T) group is accountable for driving the longer-term R&D Strategy, creating and delivering business relevant and unique solutions underpinning brand innovation programmes, based on scientific and technological capabilities.  The F&R microbiology capability delivers microbiological solutions across R&D and Supply Chain (SC).  The strength of the team lies in the integration of microbiological and processing knowledge to develop safe/stable formulation & process designs to deliver winning products. 

The successful candidate will be an R&D Product and Supply Chain Microbiologist, with proven experience in the field of microbiological safety and stability of food products and process technologies. S/he will be part of a team of experienced microbiologists and is expected to have a good understanding of business needs and trends and proactively anticipates on potential opportunities and alignment of microbiology within the business. Hand’s on laboratory experience and an aptitude for working at manufacturing sites would be an advantage. 

JOB SUMMARY

  • Act as microbiology first point of contact in the provision of microbiological and preservation expertise for product developers in Food and Refreshment (F&R) Global & Regional Design, and for F&R Supply Chain (SC) & Quality support.

  • Lead microbiological risk assessments to establish the basis for microbiological safety & stability of new products, as well as for SC support (e.g. for incidents, production lines).

  • Develop novel insights and solutions in the area of food preservation systems (e.g. hurdle-technology, natural antimicrobials, etc.)

  • Provide technical expertise in the design of microbiological experiments for innovation support and ensure robustness of the data.

  • Provision of expert advice and input on operational guidance and food safety management systems that are required in category / technology specific areas.

  • Conduct hygienic and risk assessments of manufacturing lines in response to microbiological safety and spoilage related incidents.

  • Lead technical input for relevant good manufacturing documents and training material to ensure maintenance of product & process design knowledge.

  • Drive delivery and execution of agreed programme for the F&R Division and its brands.

  • Play a leading role (together with team) in maintaining and developing the capabilities within the science area.

  • Participate actively in the microbiology network in Unilever to align ways of working.

  • Provide mentoring and guidance to microbiology technicians and assistant managers in setting up laboratory-based studies for S&T Platform and SC projects.

  • Develop a network and collaborations with internal and external Unilever contacts, manufacturing sites, 3rd party co-packers, QA personnel, other Unilever microbiology expertise groups, Supply Chain / Quality to deliver and implement microbiologically safe products and processes..

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • MSc or higher in relevant subject (e.g. Food Microbiology, Food Safety, Food Science & Technology – with focus on microbiology)

  • Proven experience in applied/industry microbiology roles (ideally in the food sector)

  • Proven track record of delivery and demonstrated success

  • Good influencing and communication skills (written and verbal); ability to convince and defend own agenda in front of internal stakeholders (within R&D and SC)

  • Good team player

  • Relevant microbiological research experience in a factory environment

  • Good appreciation and working knowledge of using ‘omics technologies and techniques

  • Ability to use technical judgment to guide team activities and programme direction

  • Ability to work in cross-disciplinary teams and in multi-cultural environments, with internal and external networks, e.g. Design, SC, Quality, 3rd parties, co-packers

  • Ability to keep abreast of new developments and opportunities within own programme area – and able to harness in business-relevant ways

  • Fluent in English
