Please join us on September 16, 2019 for the Fall 2019 Georgia Association for Food Protection (GAFP) meeting at the University of Georgia in Griffin GA. We're excited to share a diverse set of speakers covering topics spanning careers in food safety and food science as well as a presentation from Chick Fil-A on their food safety digital ecosystem.

Also, for the first time this year, the GAFP Fall Meeting will feature a poster presentation where area researchers can present their work, and students can enter for a chance to win cash prizes.

To participate in the poster session please register at the link below. Spaces are limited so register early to secure your spot.


The meeting will also include a tour of the Center for Food Safety laboratories as well as the Food Product and Innovation and Commercialization Center. Attendees are required to wear closed toed shoes to attend the laboratory tour. This is not a meeting to miss! Be sure to register early, as space is limited. Once the meeting reaches capacity, we will be unable to accept additional registrants.

IAFP 2019 - Louisville, Kentucky

Each year, the International Association for Food Protection hosts an Annual Meeting, providing attendees with information on current and emerging food safety issues, the latest science, innovative solutions to new and recurring problems, and the opportunity to network with thousands of food safety professionals from around the globe. Held in various locations throughout North America, this meeting has grown over the years to become the leading food safety conference worldwide.  IAFP 2019 will be held at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

IAFP 2019 - Pre-Meeting Workshops

IAFP Offers a series of pre-meeting workshops in advance of each annual general meeting. Pre-meeting workshops in 2019 include:

  • Using data and statistical analysis to guide food safety decision making

  • Developing environmental monitoring programs for small and and mid-size processors

  • Validating pasteurization processes for low-moisture products

  • Whole genome sequencing: A tutorial and hands-on workshop to understand and implement this breakthrough technology

  • Introduction to FDA iRisk 4.0: A comparative risk assessment tool with new features and case studies

  • Principles for establishing and extending shelf-life

Joint GAFP-GAFSTF Fall 2018 Meeting

Join us for the annual Georgia Association for Food Protection and Georgia Food Safety Task Force Joint Fall 2018 Meeting

Please join us on September 26, 2018 for the first ever joint-meeting of the Georgia Association for Food Protection (GAFP) and the Georgia Food Safety Task Force (GAFSTF) at Sweetwater Brewing Company in Atlanta, GA. Given the shared mission, goals, and objectives of both GAFP and GAFSTF, this joint-meeting will benefit members of both organizations by further building the network of food safety professionals in Georgia while creating a forum to share information, knowledge, and tools to advance food safety in Georgia.

The focus of the joint-fall meeting is sharing the lessons learned from the recent Escherichia coli O157:H7 outbreak attributed to romaine lettuce to give our members the knowledge and tools to prevent similar events in Georgia. The first speaker will explore how to identify and eliminate microbiological harborage sites in food processing facilities. Next, a panel with members representing various regulatory agencies and the retail food and leafy green industry will delve into the national and local romaine lettuce outbreak investigation and response effort. Attendees will receive updates from the Georgia Department of Agriculture, Georgia Rapid Response Team, Georgia Department of Public Health’s Epidemiology and Foodservice Programs, and the U.S. Food & Drug Administration. The recipients of the 2018 GAFP Jim Ayres Young Investigator awards will present a summary of their graduate research. Finally, the meeting will conclude with a presentation from the Quality Lab Manager at Sweetwater Brewing Company, accompanied by a brewery tour and beer tasting.

Spring 2018 GAFP Meeting

Join us for the annual Georgia Association for Food Protection Spring Meeting

Please join us on February 28, 2018 for an informative meeting at Coca-Cola Corporate Headquarters in Atlanta, GA. Presenters include Researchers from the University of Georgia, North Carolina State University, and food safety experts from IEH Laboratories & Consulting, The Coca-Cola Company, and Micreos.

The spring 2018 meeting is open only to members of the Georgia Association for Food Protection. All Members must register online, in advance, in order to attend the meeting. Members have the option to pay fees online, at the time of registration, or in-person upon check-in for the meeting. Please note that on-site meeting registration will not be possible. All GAFP members MUST register, using this online registration tool, no later than 9:00 am EST on February 21, 2018. Late meeting registrations, after February 21, 2018, and walk-up registrations will not be accepted.Only registered attendees will be permitted into the venue. Members of the media are not permitted to attend this meeting. Please note that group registrations are not available for this meeting. All members must register individually for attendance at the spring meeting.
